Kyvo Hotel

Landscape and inspiring materials echoed the natural surroundings of the Greek island Thasos. The vertically established rectangular volumes shape the structure of the hotel and give the basic elements for its characteristic logo, the KYVO; meaning The Cube in Greek. The cubes are intentionally twisted to the left to maximize the view to the sea. An outdoor pool reflects the light and provides a cool breeze on hot afternoons while weather resistant wooden louvres provide shade and shelter and playfully integrates the hotel’s balconies.

The sound of seawater, the aroma of Greek islands vegetation, the sunlight coming through the linen curtain: these can calm a visitor’s senses. The natural minimalistic materiality offers a high-quality element to the room; the pandemic has resulted in severe global and social disruption, so it’s critical to connect to nature and have some semblance of a restful experience.

That’s the mentality behind our project, a ten-room retreat that embraces a material language in harmony with the strong, symmetrical lines surrounding the landscape.
